General Responsibilities

  • Provide training to all department staff to motivate staff and to ensure the efficient operation, proper maintenance, and repair of equipment.
  • Conducts daily briefings and distributes work assignments.
  • Liaises with suppliers and contractors to obtain correct supplies and ensure proper service agreement implementation.
  • Overall responsibility for implementing the Hotel Environmental Committee on “Prevention of Pollution”.
  • Secures all required licenses, and permits necessary for the operation of the Hotel’s major equipment, as specified in local and national laws. Ensures that all said licenses and permits are current/updated at any given time.
  • Schedules and facilitates/coordinates monitoring activities as required by law and other industry/corporate standards.
  • Ensures that these monitoring activities are conducted by qualified, accredited and reputable professionals.
  • Submits legally required reports to government and industry/corporate bodies, as scheduled, and certifies accuracy/validity of said reports.


Equipment and Building Maintenance

  • Plans, designs and implements minor projects, improve efficiency or reduce other operating and maintenance costs:
  • Identifies the needs.
  • Designs and specifications.
  • Estimates costs.
  • Calls for quotations and liaises with outside contractors, where work is not done “in-house”.
  • Supervises project implementations.
  • Coordinates with/informs other departments regarding inconvenience, noise, and duration due to on-going projects.


Preventive Maintenance

  • Plans and implements preventive maintenance system including repairs and renewal of licenses to achieve zero defects for all equipment in the hotel:

-   Air-conditioning and electrical systems -   Building, including furniture and fixtures maintenance -   Elevators -   Boiler and Steam -   Plumbing and Drainage
 Minimum Requirements:

  • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's/College Degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills, can speak and understand other foreign languages is an advantage
  • Minimum of  5 years of work experience in the Engineering Department as an Engineering Manager in the Hospitality/Hotel Industry
  • Full knowledge of all Engineering aspects of Hotel PM, Assessment, and coordination with Building Administration
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Willing to perform long hours and shifting duties including weekends and holidays if required
  • Ability to perform under extreme pressure


 Work Schedule:

  • 6 days a week, shifting of schedule will depend on operational needs.

Job Requirements:

  • Candidate must possess a Polytechnic Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical or Building Services or equivalent. Preferably with Engineering Degree.

  • Champions work order assignment program for to complete work orders. Prioritizes and completes work orders in a timely manner. Monitors all deficiencies. Communicates to the requesting party upon completion when needed.
  • Carries out inspection of guest rooms after Preventive Maintenance. Reviews any problems with the Preventive Maintenance team and recheck room/suite before releasing to Housekeeping/Front Office.
  • Assists in developing, implement and manage emergency programs for the operation and maintenance of all equipment and physical structures in compliance with corporate standards, local, state and national codes and regulations to protect the asset, guests and associates, to ensure optimum operations, minimize expenses and maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for the short and long term planning and day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department.
  • Reports to Chief Engineer, on a regular basis, regarding the specific and overall condition of the building structures, guest areas, service areas, related systems and equipment offering prudent and cost effective proposals for maintaining the same. Reviews reports, and initiates appropriate actions to carry out maintenance work effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensures maintenance of swimming pool, water features and spa are done according to manufacturer specifications; PPHG standards and local Health Department Regulations.

Position summary statement:

The position is a key management position and the incumbent joins the other Heads of Department in the overall management of the hotel. Its principal role is to manage the overall maintenance of the hotel and its capital assets. Hence, the incumbent has maintenance responsibility for the building, fixtures and facilities, equipment and machinery, project management in the event alteration and amendment works are carried out in the hotel and ensuring that the building is compliant and properly licensed with the local authorities in all regards related to the building and engineering components within.

Primary Responsibilities:

Engineering

  • To prepare the Hotel’s annual maintenance budget and submit to management for approval. The annual budget should include manpower requirement, capital requisition, alteration works, etc. On budget’s approval, the incumbent takes lead in the implementation of the hotel’s maintenance plan.
  • To oversee the implementation of preventive maintenance and repair schedules of all Hotel machinery, equipment and facilities, and that they are kept to schedule and in keeping with company guidelines and policy.
  • To supervise and work with the relevant departments of the whole process of engineering project work which will include specifications, design, tender, evaluation, recommendation and awarding of contracts. Once the contracts are awarded, the incumbent monitors the project completion and ensures that the works are carried out according to specifications, local laws and building codes, and work is completed on time.
  • To ensure that all engineering installations and construction meet government rules and regulations.
  • To ensure that the Hotel’s Fire Safety Systems are fully maintained and annual licensing and testing of such equipment is completed on time. Works with the Fire Safety Office to perform regular checks on hotels fire safety systems and assists in carrying out periodic training drills and administers fire safety standards.
  • Takes full responsibility to ensure that all associates, contractors or engineering department visitors to the hotel are fully versed and trained on the hotel and companies safety policies and conduct their work in compliance with this, and in a safe work manner at all times. Is an active member of the Hotel Safety Committee.
  • To oversee the daily operation of the Engineering Department and ensure that all requests for maintenance services requested by the Hotel’s operational departments are expeditiously attended to. In this respect, the incumbent maintains proper records of engineering works carried out and to prepare such reports of maintenance activities, stock inventory, etc.

Financial

  • To take necessary and appropriate action to protect Hotel’s equipment, facilities and property through proper maintenance and against loss, wastage through mishandling, negligence or dishonesty.
  • To ensure that the Hotel’s engineering leases, contracts and bids are in accordance with established standards and guidelines and that they are supportive of the hotel’s interests. Look to evaluate the contracts, their effectiveness and productivity and make recommendations to find more efficient and economical options.

Customers

  • To ensure that the Hotels guests receive an adequate level of engineering services that satisfies the concerns and needs, ensuring that all guest maintenance calls are quickly responded to and addressed.

Human Resource Management

The Scope:

The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the Chief Engineer in maintaining overall maintenance operations of entire Hotel facility, including guest rooms, all mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C. systems, fire protection system, kitchen equipments, emergency power system, sewage system and related equipment in accordance with guest service, preventive maintenance and energy conservation standards and programs. Ensure the upkeep of guest and service areas to maintain them in proper working order and appearance, this position must be able to work independently as well as with others.

 

Responsibilities

  • Implements and maintains preventive maintenance and energy conservation programs for guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house, mechanical equipment, building systems, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with international standards, local regulations, and other environmental considerations including but not limited to workplace safety and security practices.
  • Implements hotel maintenance procedures and conducts training in order to achieve property maintenance and guest service objectives.
  • Manages departmental operations and capital projects to achieve budgeted goals.
  • Supervises all senior technicians, technicians and craft men to ensure high quality preventive, corrective and guest demand maintenance services are provided
  • Supervises all Team Leaders, Senior Technicians and Technicians to ensure high quality preventive, corrective and guest demand maintenance services are provided.
  • Reports any faults and renders assistance as and when required by department head / hotel management and takes on any responsibilities and tasks as assigned by supervisor and hotel management
  • Conducts walk through and visually assesses the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical aspects of the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, all mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C. systems and any other related equipment.
  • Assists on routine preventive maintenance on equipment under the direction of Chief Engineer. This includes guest rooms, public areas, meeting rooms, ballrooms, outlets and back of house, laundry & kitchen equipment, heating, and air handling units, ice machines, fire extinguishers, fire equipment and plumbing etc. These are performed as required by the manufacturer and in accordance with the warranty specifications.
  • Champions work order assignment program for to complete work orders. Prioritizes and completes work orders in a timely manner. Monitors all deficiencies. Communicates to the requesting party upon completion when needed.
  • Carries out inspection of guest rooms after Preventive Maintenance. Reviews any problems with the Preventive Maintenance team and recheck room/suite before releasing to Housekeeping/Front Office.
  • Assists in developing, implement and manage emergency programs for the operation and maintenance of all equipment and physical structures in compliance with corporate standards, local, state and national codes and regulations to protect the asset, guests and associates, to ensure optimum operations, minimize expenses and maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for the short and long term planning and day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department.
  • Reports to Chief Engineer, on a regular basis, regarding the specific and overall condition of the building structures, guest areas, service areas, related systems and equipment offering prudent and cost effective proposals for maintaining the same. Reviews reports, and initiates appropriate actions to carry out maintenance work effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensures maintenance of swimming pool, water features and spa are done according to manufacturer specifications; PPHG standards and local Health Department Regulations.
  • Promptly responds to guest requests in a friendly manner and follow up to ensure highest quality of service to guest satisfaction at all times.
  • Responsible for any other tasks assigned by Chief Engineer or Director of Operations.

 

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or Diploma in Hotel & Leisure Facilities Management, or any other combination of education, training, or experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.
  • Minimum of five (5) years with advanced knowledge of building management/engineering experience in international five star hotels.
  • Hands on experience on troubleshootHVAC operations, repair and maintenance; electrical controls and equipment maintenance, mechanical applications and building management system etc.
  • Strong understanding of building life safety system and energy management systems.
  • Strong knowledge and hands on experience on troubleshoots commercial kitchen equipments and meat processing equipments.

Install, maintain, perform preventative maintenance on, and recommend replacement of tools, appliances, and equipment. Calibrate all controls, gauges, meters, etc. Identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves. Order, mark, and stock parts and supplies as needed. Maintain inventory and purchase orders log. Inspect tools, equipment, or machines. Enter and locate work-related information using computers. Operate power lift.

Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others and listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees. Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards, and identify, recommend, develop, and implement new ways to increase organizational efficiency, productivity, quality, safety, and/or cost-savings. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 75 pounds without assistance. Move up and down stairs, service ramps, sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces, and/or ladders. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight. Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Education:                                 Technical, Trade, or Vocational School Degree.

Related Work Experience:         4 to 6 years of related work experience.

Supervisory Experience:           No supervisory experience. 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

License or Certification:            Valid Driver’s License
